the sound was Sgt. Pepper
the smell was patchouli mixed with pot
they wore flowers in their hair
hippy-trippy paisley skirts and shirts
those ubiquitous Birks
tried to blot out the pain of war
make the darkness disappear
they wore flowers in their hair
Punam has us thinking about 'pepper' in the Pub today!

Lovely quadrille Helen. Scent of pachouli wow took me back to memory lane.
ReplyDeleteHappy you dropped by my blog today.
Much💖love
Made me smile. Lovely indeed.
ReplyDeleteOh, Helen! Such lovely memories! Those were indeed the days. Thanks so much for joining in with this fabulously nostalgic quad. ❤️
ReplyDeleteAhhh, so it was, so we did ... so they were.
ReplyDeleteI only know about those years from books and movies, Helen! 🙃

Pain didn't go away but at least it glared a bit less with colorful clothes and flowers in their hair.
ReplyDeleteThings were very different back then.I think life was easier. I would not like to be a young person in this day and age......Cressida. You forgot to mention afro hair.....yikes I had one....
ReplyDeleteYes, things were different back then and never will be that good again. Most weren't really worried about the Vietnam War, only themselves and their own lives. I wasn't a part of them, much, exception weekends. I had a good Aerospace Engineer job at NASA Houston, but had hair that went below my collar, a mustache, but wore a suit to work, road my motorcycle amongst the bands playing in the parks under the trees, most famous was ZZ Top. Or it was parked a warehouse in the alleys of downtown Houston. Those were my freedom years, three good years of being divorced and single. I went to San Francisco on my job, back when "if you come to San Francisco wear a flower in your hair" was on top. I still had fairly long hair when I got married and my wedding ring is a gold with a raised flower wreath around it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for finding me, my "pepper" write was about my "Jim's Quick and Easy Stuffed Bell Peppers". Being a single guy begs for him develop a lot of Quick and Easy food recipes. My favorite and probably the easiest is my "Jim's Quick and Easy Apple Pie."
..
Should say that I parked "by a loading platform outside a warehouse . . ."

There was a lot more wild and violent times over here, the war was nearby and it's making us nervous. :(
ReplyDeleteI think of my sons and their friends and feel like that spirit, while it may have morphed with the times, still exists.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed being reminded Helen.
