Carney Life

De is hosting Quadrille Monday in the dVerse Poets Pub ~~ and it's all about LIGHT

She dances under a carnival tent

draped in tulle, this beauty burning bright

smoke curls, phantom wisps, obscure her face

the Ferris wheel turns and plays its shadow game

glittering midway lights twirl in perfect sync

while I stand entranced, and mysteries freely flow

I Spy

Monday means Quadrille in the DVerse Poets Pub! Whimsy Gizmo provides us  a "lunar" challenge! as luck would have it i recently acquired a book of jamie wyeth's art.

Jamie Wyeth ~ Monhegan's Schoolteacher ~ 2004

it's hard to concentrate

when a young lad's

teacher looks like this

if only he knew

his lovely teacher

reads

e e cummings

by the light of the moon

by the light of the stars

naked and free of inhibition

if only he knew

Hard Fall

Lillian has us 'falling' in the  dVerse Poets Pub ~ Come join us!

it's not the kind of fall

that scraped and bloodied

my knees

broke bones or muddled

my brain

'twas falling out of step

the misalignment

and abandonment

of what I believed were

my core values

free falling from grace

the hardest fall of all

Little Shadow

 Negril Jamaica 1986

she followed me for days

entranced by this American

her white skin .. sun-streaked hair.

she mimicked my Midwest accent

[ while I went for a Bob Marley

"No Worries Mon" vibe ]

her lovely gift before parting

cornrows in my hair ~~

I do not recall her name.

Lillian is serving deliciousness in the Pub today ~ price of admission, one 44-word quadrille!

Turmoil in the 60s!

the sound was Sgt. Pepper

the smell was patchouli mixed with pot

they wore flowers in their hair

hippy-trippy paisley skirts and shirts

those ubiquitous Birks

tried to blot out the pain of war

make the darkness disappear

they wore flowers in their hair

Punam has us thinking about 'pepper' in the Pub today!

Work It!

look 'em in the eyes, hold their gaze

work 'em, one by one

adopt an air of nonchalance, sexy

the undone button

loose strand of hair across your face

expose shoulders

collarbones always were your best feature

you know how to work a crowd

Browsing

Linda asks us to use the word "Browse" or a derivative in our Quadrilles

Memorial Day

the perfect time to drag out

that heavy 'old photos' box

thousands of them

a day made for solitude, for browsing

memories, moments, the very best ones

~ sometimes a mood takes over ~

can too much of a good thing ruin it?

 Never.
