Ball Ground and The Daffodils

It's Tuesday ~ time for Poetics in the dVerse Poets Pub Poets Pub  Merril has provided us with a list of daffodil varieties. We are to use at least three in our poems, more if we choose. No required form or length, nor are we required to write about daffodils or spring ~~~ which means poetry options are limitless today. Yippee!

Gibbs Garden ~ Ball Ground, GA ~ I have visited many times
I used Golden Dawn, Love Call and Sentinel

~ the Appalachian foothills ~
whispers of nature weave through the air
this sanctuary where daffodils dance
in golden dawn
this tapestry of petals
where time stands still

i wander the labyrinth of pathways
lose myself in the beauty
surrounding me
in this oasis of serenity
my weary soul is soothed

as day fades into dusk
daffodils take on a new guise
standing sentinel as shadows
dance among blooms
weaving tales of mystery and wonder
reminding me, beauty is fleeting

midst whispers of wind
the love call of birds
my dreams take flight
time a distant memory.

  1. Oh my goodness, Helen--what a gorgeous place. I love how you capture how the daffodils look as the light changes. Indeed, beauty is fleeting. Thank you for writing to the prompt!

  7. Wow, I thought at first that you had written for my Wordsworth prompt, but it seems that Dverse and I were on the same wavelength this week. I love your poem, Helen. Indeed, it's ALL fleeting.

  8. I reckon I'm a day late with dVerse. Oh well, those folks are awfully busy. There's nothing quite like a band of daffodils to welcome spring. Their beauty is fleeting and maybe that's why they're so special.

  9. It's a refreshing poem, and picture, Helen. From the Midwest, and for sure not around here is Houston, I am not used to fields of flowers. If there were some it would have been Sunflowers in the former, still none here. I gather they don't stay in bloom for very long, life 'fleeting'. Your pictures in verse and on the web say homage to pretty blossoms.

  17. The ephemeral nature of flowers adds to the magic of their beauty--and this place looks to be full of magic, which is reflected in your words.
