"WHAT" is the magic word!
what if I told you
it was never about doubt
never about transgressions
what if I told you
my mistakes were
as unforgivable as yours
I was still in love with you
would you take me back
or would you tell me it’s over
Beautiful. I feel that it would be best not to know. It would be like pulling a scab off, I think.
ReplyDeleteI think we all have these "What if?" thoughts, Helen.

ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the 80's song, "Only Human." Well done.

Dearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteLuckily I never had a what if moment. Just followed my heart and never did regret that.
Hugs,
Mariette
Relationships cause many what if's when you look back.
ReplyDeleteTo never know is often the only amswer.
ReplyDeleteThat treacherous heart can do many things to one's life. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteWhat IF indeed. I hate regrets but love your response.

I really like these lines. They make me wonder, what if we explored forgiveness together without fear?
Great work Helen. How can I stay openhearted in the face of transgressions and all? Agree with Ali here too. -Eric

Wow.
Beautiful, Helen! What ifs can be frightening.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of those poems where one does not have to know all the context to feel the powerful emotions being aired, Helen...
ReplyDeleteSo poignant, Helen. What if indeed--very moving. I felt this. 💙
ReplyDeleteWords to contemplate, Helen
ReplyDelete"What ifs" can be the worst, keeps us from moving on, keeps us on a endless loop of wondering. So well expressed.
