It's Quadrille Monday in the dVerse Pub ~ Punam is hosting ~ our challenge ~~ use the word "alter" or a form of the word, in a 44-word quadrille!
tucked in my shadow's pocket
"alter-ego" stretches its limbs
tosses back its hair
waits for the music
spotlight humming
I vanish ~ "she" arrives
bold as brass
borrowing my shoes
but none of my demeanor
the curtain falls
back into the pocket
'till next time

I wish I had learned to deal with stage fright with your aplomb - fantastic
ReplyDeleteat first amazing and wonderful that we can put on that mask and say/do/be things we didnt' think possible! hopefully we can learn later that the mask isn't needed, or even very helpful
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to have an alter-ego to pull out of your pocket when needed. It's saved my butt a few times.
ReplyDeleteI like the take on this prompt. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteOh to have such a confident alter ego, Helen! I love the idea of it being ‘tucked in my shadow's pocket’.
ReplyDeleteYes... I can feel this... how it feels going from the shy to my alter-ego....
ReplyDeleteHelen, your poem feels both playful and profound—like the dance between self and other. The way you capture the transformation is striking!
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
David
