Little Shadow



 Negril Jamaica 1986


she followed me for days

entranced by this American

her white skin .. sun-streaked hair.

she mimicked my Midwest accent

[ while I went for a Bob Marley 

"No Worries Mon" vibe ]

her lovely gift before parting

cornrows in my hair ~~

I do not recall her name. 

Lillian is serving deliciousness in the Pub today ~ price of admission, one 44-word quadrille!

    Ohhhh Helen....this is just lovely. Is that you in the photo, and the little girl? I love that you tried on the Bob Marley voice....and what a lovely gift. But I suspect the entire experience was the gift.....with lovely memories to cherish to this day.

    Is this autobiographical? It is such a nice story. Creating new relationships, especially between different cultures, is always a wonderful experience.

      True indeed ... the cornrows were ultimately quite painful, a stranger on my flight home undid each of them. It took over an hour.
