It's time for a Quadrille in the dVerse Poets Pub ~ Kim is hosting ~ the magic word is
"Rumpus"
Knotty pine walls
shuffleboard glow
Elvis and Ricky
on turntable slow
spin the bottle laughter
a quick stolen kiss
Johnny Mathis crooning
what 'forever' is
on the verge of high school
the world in bloom
our small town hearts throbbed
in that rumpus room

Classic! A time travel poem!
ReplyDeleteYou turned the dial to a special time, Helen.
ReplyDeleteSounds like that room held a lot of memories.
ReplyDeleteYour time travel quadrille transported me, Helen. I would have loved a rumpus room back in the day, but we didn’t have them in the UK, especially not in a poky council flat. I’ve never played spin the bottle, but it sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteI do remember those rooms... we certainly had them too (and that bottle spin I remember)
ReplyDeleteThe ending is perfect!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's sweet!
ReplyDeleteGreat quadrille, Helen!

A nostalgic write and cool photo, Helen :)
ReplyDeleteoops...this is lynn__
DeleteI was envious of my friends' rumpus rooms when I was growing up! We didn't even have a "den" or "family room," just the television in the living room. I love your illustration and nostalgic look back!
ReplyDeleteWe didn't have a rumpus room, but friends did, and your description is perfect!
ReplyDeleteThis took me back to blanket forts and cubbies among other things, and who could ever forget spin the bottle! wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSuch a nostalgic scene, Helen — the mix of Elvis, shuffleboard, and small-town hearts in that rumpus room feels so alive to me.
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
David
