The Prince and The Pauper

Time for a Quadrille in the dVerse Poets Pub ~ Melissa is hosting ~ the magic word is 'ZERO'

Harry's a prince with great wealth to spare

our grandson's pockets ~ light as thin air

often at zero ~ blessing his heart

handsome enough to play the Prince part

status does differ ~ of course that is true

but in looks we think he beats Harry too

Perchance to Dream

Lisa is hosting the Quadrille challenge in dVerse Poets Pub ~ she chose the word "Coax" or a form of it ~ to use in our poems.

I dreamed a poem last night

this morning ~ coaxing bits and pieces

to coalesce, materialize, return to me

stubborn devils ~ pesky details!

must I nap to dream?

[ I don't ordinarily unless I'm ill ]

seems a waste of valuable time

looking for an encore tonight

Rumpus Room in the '50s

It's time for a Quadrille in the dVerse Poets Pub ~ Kim is hosting ~ the magic word is

"Rumpus"

Pinterest

Knotty pine walls

shuffleboard glow

Elvis and Ricky

on turntable slow

spin the bottle laughter

a quick stolen kiss

Johnny Mathis crooning

what 'forever' is

on the verge of high school

the world in bloom

our small town hearts throbbed

in that rumpus room

Enough Already!!!

De [aka Whimsygizmo] is hosting Quadrille in the dVerse Poets Pub ~~ 'Jabbering' is our challenge!

Eighty-three marching to eighty-four

my words prance like brass bands

down the cobblestone streets

of your patience

I tell you too much about everything

the cat's gift on our front stoop

our neighbor's torrid affair

tomorrow I will march even louder

jabbering and unstoppable

Big Mouth Billy Bass

Mish has us concentrating on FISH today in the dVerse Poets Pub ~~ it's Quadrille Monday ~~  and away we go!

that fish!
how many minutes
how many hours
the sound of rollicking laughter
tears running down our cheeks
trying to catch our breaths

in good company:
'twas reported
Queen Elizabeth had a
Big Mouth Billy Bass
displayed on the grand piano
of Balmoral Castle!

On Stage

Kim is hosting Quadrille Monday in the Pub ~ a poem of exactly 44 words ~ our challenge word is 'engrave'

they wear lies
wear them well
careful not to expose
the dark underbelly
of who they are

lies of omission
lies of commission

cloaked in diabolical disguise
spun from strands of deceit
 engraved on sick pseudo souls
they wear lies
and wear them well

Mood Indigo

Lillian is hosting dVerse Quadrille Monday from sunny San Diego ~ the word we must use in our 44-word poem is "Indigo"

I encourage you to listen to this 1957 classic by none other than
the incomparable "Ms. Ella Fitzgerald"

[I remember dancing to it in 1957]

Indigo shadows hang soft and low

on the dance floor where lovers go

fingers linger, hearts in tune

lost in jazz and silver moon

years have passed, yet still we stay

our love burns deep in dusk’s ballet

warm as night and old champagne

MIND YOUR STEP!!

Monday in the dVerse Pub ~ time for a Quadrille!  Ms. Lillian is hosting and provides the word "PROMISE" as inspiration for our 44-word poems.

 Wikipedia Image

In petticoats and polished boots

lacy twirls and corsets bound

hands held tight for half a beat

they shuffled, stepped and nearly tripped

all for a wink across the floor

romance concealed in each spin

hint of a promise

dance of toes

tangled feet

Touch

De Jackson hosts Quadrille Monday in the dVerse Poets Pub! We are to use the word "touch" in our poems.

My Mother and her friend Arthur ~ 2003

a memory care facility
any-town, any-city
two souls seeking one another
their memories imprisoned
in a place so remote
recovery feels hopeless
the past irretrievable.

still, impulse / instinct remain
the longing for touch
hands holding hands
lips meeting lips
the feel of another's body.
